Latex For Fun!
Alongside our astheticaly supremo-lovelymatic friends DGPH & Sauerkids, Hicalorie has been invited to participate in the Latex For Fun Project 2006. The project started with a simple idea: create disposable "designer toys" with pure d.i.y. ethics. Latex for fun is bringing a project into the world to provide designer toy asthetic, style and loveliness, without the designer toy pricetag, and meanwhile bring the focus back to the true hands on d.i.y focus that has laced the designer toy industry from day 1. The idea came from designers drawing over balloons what they would like to draw over vinyl toys, but couldn´t afford, an idea with which founders 'The Currently Off' and 'Max-o-matic' gathered enough interest and material to put together an art show (in barcelona) and a book. Both will have the balloons and illustrations made by selected artists that were invited to represent the concept "latex for fun" including superlovelies such as Jeremyville, Jon Burgerman, Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, Jason Siu, Sauerkids, DGPH and little old Hicalorie. Give Me Hope!
100% turbo-limited short sleeved cotton loveliness hits the shores of Hicalorie Island.
The Gimme Hope tee shirt collection features artwork from internationaly loved artists, illustrators, toy designers and doodlers. The first 10 Are available in store today and feature work from Matt Sewell, Jon Knox of Hello Brute and Alex Devol. Toy Saves World!
Help save the world one plush octopus at a time. The offspring of lefty the narcotics laced octopus the 'leftettes' are now available for adoption from the Hicalorie Store. The 3" plush baby keychains are being sent to good homes and the funds gathered from sales are to be donated to national drugs-awareness charities. Lefty only provided us with an extrememly limited edition litter of 100, 50 boys and 50 girls so be quick! The plush are packaged in their own case's with free hicalorie buttons stickers and bits crammed in for good measure. Hicalorie are in the middle of attending incognito at TBC London (30th &31st July). We're there undercover at the PHCY Pharmacy Industry stand, helping them look even prettier than they already are, if thats possible. As The UK’s premium casualwear trade show, the exhibition promises to be the biggest and most impressive yet, with over 300 of the hottest brands from Europe and beyond. Hicalorie for Box Doodle Project! If your at the Pictoplasma Conferance this October in Berlin you will be able to see Hicalorie's addition to the character walk. In collaboration with David Hofmann's box doodle project we make the most of least and bring you 'Atsugami the Hero'!

 

If you want beautiful tee shirts that make you feel good inside. But you are poor and lazy and have no job, there is hope for you yet. As you may know we have designed a free toy for the poor and lazy and unemployed! All you have to do is download the toy template from the download section and use it to make a small army of Usagi Scrabbit toys, take a picture and email it to hi@hicalorie.com before August 20th, we'l handle the rest. 2 Scrabbits will not be considered an army, to qualify as an army there must be sufficient Scrabbits to fill a 1ltr ice cream carton. Hicalorie has been invited along this year on the Sneaker Pimps USA tour! We'll be arriving slightly late on the tour but we'l get you some photos of whats on show as soon as we can. Sneaker Pimps is the worlds largest sneaker tour, exhibiting the latest and rarest shoes available.

 

Summer 2006 is currently seeing the 5th installment of the ”untitled” exhibition in Berlin and Barcelona. The “untitled” exhibition showcases personal belongings, influential items, beloved collectibles and artwork contributed by European, American and Asian protagonists of the emerging way - of life under its commonly used moniker “street culture”, whatever that means.
Started 5 years ago by Streetwear Today, Lodown Magazine and Magwick. Artists get joined to put everything on display that surrounds the creative and everyday life of skateboarding, Graffiti, street wear, BMX, and the artistic outlet and music.

Sewell Comet Mid
While in Barcelona we got chance to see for our own eyes the magic of Matt Sewell's entry to series 1 of the 'collection'. Matt was commisioned paint a 2m x 2m canvas which was later cut up and sewn into panels of a Gravis Comet Mid shoe. Only 36 pairs can be made from the canvas! Im pretty sure Gravis were the first brand to publicly try this technique and actualy release the finished product & its been jumped on pretty quickly since by other brands. Weve been lucky enough to have Matt collaborating with us at Hicalorie recently, so ofcourse this is MY favourite of both series 1 & 2! Watch this space for his entry into the 'Gimme Hope' Tee shirt collection next month.

Tokidoki @ BBB
Day 2 of Barcelona and one of the shining stands I unexpectedly stumbled across belonged to Simone of Tokidoki! Aswell as great recent projects with LeSportsac and Strange.co Toys, it seems Simone has also developed a pretty large t shirt collection, all other sorts of independent merchandise and is quickly developing into a brand himself!

Bread & Butter Barcelona
Ok so lets get you updated. This week 3 of us managed to leave the studio and represent Hicalorie at the Bread & Butter Show held in Barcelona, Spain. Its difficult to be taken seriously by people when you tell them you 'have' to go and spend 3 days 'on business' under the Spanish sun, soaking up all of all of your favourite brands collections for next year while drinking on the house & eating for free. Its our 3 anual favourite work days and this year was no exception. So after almost re-enacting 'Lost' episode 1, courtesy of 'Ryan Air' I pulled my stomach back in & got to 'work'. Appart from the wall to wall buffet of incredible clothing & performances, day 1 was made for me when I met up with Pisa73 & Evol from CT. Both were exhibiting work alongside other artists upstairs in the gallery.

The Vice Magazine Party

The first night of our BBB trip & its midnight, were lucky enough to have been hanging out on the beach with the guys & girls from our favourite brand there at the show, Pharmacy Industry. After an endless battle to get the sand out of our shoes we set off on our way to the party Vice Magazine were holding that night. We felt pretty special to be there & had such a good time (were so intoxicated) that we were only slightly disapointed (didnt have time to pay attention) when the Misfits arrived on stage and shattered my childhood dreams by killing a few of thier songs on stage.
